East West Seed Indonesia, Ewindo, is a joint venture of the founding companies Enza Zaden and East West International. The company was established in 1990 as the first vegetable breeding company in Indonesia focussing specifically on the Indonesian market. By now, Ewindo has grown into the most important vegetable seed company in Indonesia.
The situation of the Indonesian vegetable growers underlies the establishment of Ewindo. Many of them dealt with a very limited yield caused by a variety of pathogens. Pathogens against which Enza Zaden and East West Seed International already had resistant material available.
In Indonesia and for the benefit of the country
The original mission? Establishing an Indonesian company, in Indonesia and for the benefit of the country, with the support of the founding companies in means and knowledge. Enza Zaden contributed, for instance, its knowledge in plant breeding and its expertise in seed technology. Through the years, Ewindo has developed into a company with thorough knowledge in R&D and seed technology, with its own seed production facilities and with more than five hundred employees, all of them of Indonesian origin.
Promoting prosperity
Since its establishment, Ewindo played a major role in the switch to quality seed. The hybrid varieties that Indonesian growers use ever since, offer more reliability. Therefore, Ewindo contributed significantly to the growers and consumers in Indonesia.
